The Kentucky Plastic Gyre

Not really a gyre but you get the idea....Atlanta Chapter chair Steve Combs was stand up paddling in Eastern Kentucky and came across this plastic patch.

The location is in a rural area of Kentucky at the foot of a dam. The garbage washes down the hill from the surrounding areas. The boom collects all the trash. The local state park, Corps of Engineers, and volunteer groups do what they can to clean it up, but clearly we need to stop using plastic. It's not just an ocean problem. Stay tuned for the Atlanta Chapter's Rise Above Plastics campaign here in Georgia.
