Barefoot Wine / Surfrider Foundation River Cleanup

The Atlanta Chapter will be cleaning up the Powers Island to Paces Mill unit of the Chattahoochee River for a “Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue” event on August 25 , 2012.  The event is open to Surfrider members and non-members, but the National Park Service is providing 8 canoes (16 people) to Surfrider members. You can also walk or wade at the Paces Mill location or bring your own canoe, kayak, or SUP.  There will be a post-event celebration for Surfrider members and non-members with FREE wine and food.  YOU MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE. See below for more details.

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, now in its sixth year, helps keep beaches, rivers, parks and lakes across America “barefoot friendly.”  In 2012, Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches, along with community volunteers, are embarking on a tour of 25 cleanups nationwide, stopping in Atlanta, GA.

All participants MUST report to the Paces Meeting meeting area first.

Volunteers are also invited to attend a celebration, organized by Surfrider Foundation, featuring surf-inspired fare.  Tickets for the celebration will be distributed at the cleanup.

Please note that all events are limited to those 21 years of age or older.

YOU MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE at the Barefoot Wine site: http://beachrescueatlanta-eorg.eventbrite.com/. The National Park Service's 8 canoes (for 16 people) will be provided on a first come-first serve basis to Surfrider Foundation members ONLY.   If you want to use a canoe provided by the National Park Service, please let us know in the comments below. If you are not a member, please JOIN. (You must still register at the Barefoot Wine site.)
