The Chapter will be volunteering with the Coastal Department of Natural Resources to help restore oyster shell reefs on the Georgia coast this year!!

Details

All volunteers to arrive at the GADNR campus at 1 Conservation Way in Brunswick by 9:00am. Volunteers can bring signed waivers with them, see attached, or they can be filled out on site. We will depart GADNR via vessel at 9:30 am and head to Overlook Park where deployment of wire bundles and bamboo spat stick will begin at 10:00 am. Volunteers should anticipate to be on the vessel on Thursday March 27th from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. We are hopeful to fully complete the deployment on Thursday.

Location

Georgia Department of Natural Resources campus at 1 Conservation Way in Brunswick, GA.

Important Details

Since this field work is highly labor intensive (lifting and carrying) all volunteers must be able to lift and carry up to 20lbs, are in good health without physical limitations that may affect the ability to participate, are comfortable working outdoors on a vessel and in a mudflat, and are willing to sign a release of liability waiver. We ask that all volunteers arrive in the required attire: long sleeve (to avoid scrapes on arms) or short sleeve t-shirts, shorts or trousers (to avoid scrapes on legs), close toed shoes like sneakers or scuba dive booties, bring gloves, and sun protection. Shoes can get lost in the mud if they are not tied tightly. All clothing will get dirty so it is best to wear old versus new clothing. Volunteers might also want to bring a change of clothes to avoid having the inside of their personal vehicles muddy.
