Recap for 5th Annual International Marine Debris Conference

Pam Longobardi, executive committee member from the Atlanta Chapter, and internationally known artist, recently attended the 5imdc 5th International Marine Debris Conference co-sponsored by NOAA National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and UNEP United Nations Environmental and the Rise Against Plastics conferences in Honolulu, Hawaii. At 5imdc she co-produced an art show and workshop featuring her pieces made entirely from drift plastic. The end result of the conference is the “Honolulu Commitment” from the Plastic Pollution Coalition and other a handful of concerned scientists, challenging the American Chemistry Council and plastic lobbyists to use specific language, such as "plastic pollution," "endocrine disruptors," and "heavy metal contamination" into the final document, which will be revealed in several weeks".
